A.G. Putman

A.G. Putman, 88, of Sophia, NC, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Hospice Home of Randolph County, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 9, 1937, in Mountain City, Tennessee, A.G. was the son of the late Fred Putman and the late Elizabeth Ann Arney Putman. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for two years before beginning a long and dedicated career in the furniture industry, which brought him to High Point, NC, in 1959.

A.G. had a deep love for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing—often alongside his brothers—and playing golf. Above all, he loved the Lord and his family. A faithful servant, A.G. was a member of Sophia Baptist Church for 33 years, and prior to that, a devoted member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in High Point for 31 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Putman and David Putman.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 64 years, Brenda Wagner Putman; his daughter, Sandra Flynn and husband Richard; his son, Alan Putman and wife Dawn; grandchildren, Abigail Robertson and husband Michael, Caitlin Thomas, and Garrett Putman; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Daphne, Charlee, and Conrad Robertson; brother, Randle Putman; and sister, Sally Wilson.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Sophia Baptist Church in Sophia, NC, with Pastor Jonathan Burris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

All are welcome to attend the committal service, which will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 3385 Roan Creek Rd., Mountain City, TN 37683.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sophia Baptist Church or to Hospice Home of Randolph County in Asheboro, NC.
