Allie Vyann Pennington, better known as Vyann, 85, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and devotion to her family and community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy John Woodard and Josephine Curd Woodard; two sisters, Opal Pennington and Wilma Sturgill; and her beloved husband of 53 years, Charles Glen Pennington Jr. 

She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Roberta) Pennington of Newport, NC and Dwayne (Thelma) Pennington of Creston; two grandchildren, Rolston Pennington of Newport, NC and Evelyn (Danny) Holsclaw of Warrensville; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea Boggss of West Jefferson, Daniel Holsclaw of Creston, Charles Holsclaw of Warrensville, and five great great grandchildren, Allie, Callie, Cohen, Adelynn, and Walker.  Se is also survived by two brothers, Paul Woodard and Jerry Woodard both of Creston; one sister, Patsy Allen of  Creston; several nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Amanda Cox. 

Vyann dedicated 40 years to Sprague Electric.  She also graduated from Riverview High School and was a member of Baptist Home Church.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures.  She loved tending her garden, canning the harvest, bird watching, working jigsaw puzzles, and caring for those around her.  She was well known for her delicious blueberry yum yum dessert, pumpkin pies, and butterscotch pies, which became cherished family favorites. Above all, Vyann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver whose warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew her. 

Funeral service for Vyann will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home, 300 W. Main Street, Mountain City, TN 37683 with pastor Jimmy Galgano to officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service.  Graveside service and interment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens 3470 US Hwy 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Holsclaw, Charles Holsclaw, Danny Holsclaw, Rolston Pennington, Dalton Boggs, and David Cox. 

Vyann's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know and love her.

The family would like to extend  a special thanks to Watauga Medical Center Staff for their compassionate care.
