Belle Ragan

March 22, 1923 — April 30, 2023

Mammaw’s work here is done.  Jesus called her home on April 30, 2023.  We have no doubt it was a glorious reunion with family and friends she hadn’t seen in a long time.  We are joyful that Mammaw is home, but we are heartbroken we couldn’t keep her here a little longer.

Anna Belle Donnelly Ragan was born March 22, 1923 in Ashe County, NC to the late Bruce and Torrence Donnelly.  She was the middle child among seven children.
Belle married the love of her life, Tip, on April 3, 1948.  They had 42 blessed years together as husband and wife.  She had longed to be reunited with him for more than 32 years.
Belle had a remarkable green thumb.  She loved flowers, gardening, and growing her own tomato plants from seed she saved from the season before.  She spent as much time outside on her front porch as she could. She also enjoyed a glass of cold Coca-Cola, a good hamburger, and some fried chicken.

In addition to her parents, Belle was preceded in death by her husband Tip, sisters Grace Wilson, Virginia Lewis, Ruth Duncan, brothers Raymond Donnelly and Joe Donnelly, and granddaughter Amanda Costigan.

Those left to remember her are her sister Margaret "Tootsie" Wallace, son Neal Ragan, daughters Pat Puett (Pat) and Peggy May, granddaughters Gina Taggart (Jim), Sonia Ragan, Keila Ragan-Wise (Darrell), and Adrienne Holman (James), great grandchildren Nova Segreti, Jenna Reece, Tanner Putnam, Shainna Putnam, Eli Costigan, Emma Costigan, Kaitlin Holman, Emily Holman, Monica Taggart, and Jack Taggart, and several nieces and nephews.

Due to inclement weather the graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 3,2023 at 1:00 pm in the Buford Lipford Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with Daniel Jones officiating.  Pallbearers will be Darrell Ragan-Wise, James Holman, Pat Puett, Doug Wallace, Scott Wallace, Joe Reece, Ashley Feimster, and Rocky Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers are Dale Wilson, Jerry Wallace, Larry Donnelly, Jack Wise, Joe Winebarger, and Harvey Reece.

Belle’s family would like to sincerely thank Daniel and Jessica Jones, niece Martha Nelson, family friend Judy Osborne, Amedysis Home Health, Amedysis Hospice, Johnson County Rescue & EMS, and Johnson County Community Hospital Emergency Room for all the wonderful care provided to her.
