He was born April 8, 1934, to the late Ben and Bell Pleasant. He was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and American Legion. He was an army veteran having served in the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeff Pleasant, six sisters, and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Ida Pleasant; three daughters: Janet Mahala, Patricia (Steve) Payne, Melissa Scott (Billy) of Mountain City, Tennessee; three sons: James Parker (Kathy) of Butler, Tennessee, Benjamin "Benji" Pleasant of Lenoir, North Carolina, and Michael Pleasant of Mountain City, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and friends and staff of Mountain City Care Center. Funeral services for Bennie Hubert Pleasant will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007, from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home, with Rev. Lonnie Denney officiating. Burial will follow in the Phillippi Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the services at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Josh Payne, Jacob Payne, Steve Payne, Dallas Vaughn, Billy Scott and Josh Dollar. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Shine, Johnson County Rescue Squad, Doug Hornsby and staff at Mountain City Care Center, and Lincare Oxygen Staff.
