View This Video Tribute Bernice Smith McFadden, age 79, of 732 Eastridge Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 in Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Fred Walter Smith and Minnie Allen Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Ray Allen and Jerry Smith. Bernice had been a member of Wesley Chapel since 1960 and also sang in the choir. Her hobbies included gardening, pets, bird watching, playing the guitar and she especially loved the Smokey Mountains, Cades Cove and Blue Ridge Parkway. Her wish and desire was for her family to remember her for her kindness and love for family and friends and for the family to continue having “get togethers”.
She is survived by her husband Daniel “Dan” McFadden of the home; daughters and stepdaughters include: Daphne Meadows and husband Randy of Laurel Bloomery, TN; Sandy Pack and husband Jay of Bristol, VA; Jerrie Lee Howard, Mary McFadden, and Belinda Hensley, all of Mountain City, TN; Brenda Crosswhite of Laurel Bloomery, TN; sons and stepsons include: Steve Carlson, Mark Carlson, Doyle Carlson, Matt Hampton and wife Fran, Johnny Howard, all of Mountain City, TN; Mike Howard of Laurel Bloomery, TN; one brother: Bud Smith and wife Madge of Peach Bottom, PA; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren; special friends: Aunt Grace Eller that she loved to travel with to the Smokey Mountains; Dallas Meadows, who is no longer with us, a long time friend who also loved to travel to the Smokey Mountains; Polly Grindstaff, her church family and many others. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Bernice Smith McFadden will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 from Wesley Chapel in Mountain City, TN with Pastor Tom Prater and Rev. Mike Bowers to officiate. Graveside service and interment will follow the service in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Shingletown. Pallbearers will be Jeff Norris, Mike Howard, Jay Pack, Randy Meadows, Doyle Carlson, Robbie Carlson, Terry Reid, Mark Carlson, Steve Carlson and Bennie Campbell. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2010 in the Eastside Memory Chapel of Hux~Lipford~Teague Funeral Home.
