Bessie Johnson Payne

Bessie Johnson Payne, age 91, of 3500 Hwy 421 North, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at the Mountain City Care Center. A native of Mountain City, Tennessee, she was born on May 16, 1914 to the late James and Emma Cress Johnson. In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Gurney Payne, who passed away in October 31, 1973; one son, Robert Payne, who passed away in January 7, 2003; four sisters: Mina Teague, Hattie Church, Bedie Payne, and Bonnie Roark and three brothers: Clarence Johnson, Wynn Johnson and James Scott "Buck" Johnson Jr. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Bessie was a homemaker and was a member of the Valley View Methodist Church. She is survived by one granddaughter, Crystal Payne-Honeycutt; one great grandson, Hunter Honeycutt and several nieces and nephews. Services for Bessie Johnson Payne will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2005 from the Hux-Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Valley View United Methodist Church Choir. Interment will be in the Cress Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers are: Tom Payne and Worley Payne.
