Bessie Nichols Strimlin, age 95, of 373 Old Butler Road, Mountain City, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Strimlin was a native of Ashe County, North Carolina and was born on August 19,1907 to the late William Duke and Cora Osborne Nichols. She worked in a cannery in Pennsylvania and was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Strimlin in 1976; one son, Willard Nichols, and several brothers and sisters. Survivors: (1) Daughter: Mae Nichols Phipps, Mountain City, TN (1) Son: Leonard S. Cox, Kennett Square, PA (8) Grandchildren (14) Great Grandchildren (16) Great Great Grandchildren Several Nieces and Nephews Hux-Lipford Funeral Home is in charge of the Arrangements. Funeral services for Bessie Nichols Strimlin will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 10, 2003 at the Henson Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Spencer Roark and Rev. Roy Dowell to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, May 9, 2003 at the Henson Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence, 373 Old Butler Road, Mountain City, at any time. Pallbearers will be Junior Nichols, Jerry Nichols, Ronnie Nichols, Larry Nichols, Gary Bonsall, Jeff Nichols, Michael Nichols, and Randy Phipps. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Steve Lord and Dr. Raina Sluder In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Trula Muse Burial will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park.
