Billy D. "Jack" Roberts, age 74, of 661 Slabtown Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Johnson County, he was born on March 24, 1930 to the late Clyde and Mae Roberts. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Roberts, Lonnie Roberts and Theodore Roberts and one sister, CarolynWright. Jack had retired from the U.S. Forest Service and was also a farmer. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Jack was a member of the Doe Valley Baptist Church where he also served as Deacon and was on the Board of Trustees. Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clara "Chloe" Roberts, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Colleen Proffitt and husband Kenneth; four sisters, Peggy Hawkins, Lois Wilson, Eva Horne, all of Mountain City, Tn and Dorothy Miller of Creston, N.C.; two brothers, J.L. Roberts and Johnny Roberts, both of Mountain City, Tn; one grandson, Kevin Proffitt and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Jack will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005 from the Doe Valley Baptist Church with Bill Hayden, J.C. Greene and Roy Dowell to officiate. Music will be under the direction of J.C. and Ginavee Greene. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Lowe Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Buddy Stout, Don Roberts, Kenneth Gregg, Gary Roberts, Darrell Proffitt, Glen Painter, Robert Wallace and Wayne Maxwell. Honorary Pallbearers are: Roy Whitehead, Ben Snyder, Warner Eller and Roby Phillippi. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to Services at the Church. At other times, friends may call at the residence or at the residence of his daughter, Colleen Proffitt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2200 Lake Blvd. Atlanta, Georgia 30319.
