Bird Turner, of Mountain City, Tennessee, peacefully departed at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2006. She was born on May 12, 1921 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late R.L. and Irma Ashe. In addition to her parents, Bird was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Belk and her second husband, Earle Turner and one sister, Bivens A. Smith. She was a graduate of Erskine College of Due West, South Carolina. Following college, Bird was employed by the Orangeburg, South Carolina Public School System where she later retired. She was a member of the Mountain City Presbyterian Church, 1997 Rotary Volunteer of the Year, Retired Teachers Association, hospital volunteer, member of the Johnson County Newcomers Group and a friend to all. She loved to visit shut-ins, enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends and loved baking cookies. Bird is survived by her son, Jack Belk and wife Tara of Mountain City, Tennessee; granddaughter, Gemma Rose of Columbia, Missouri; step-children: Pam McCausland, Sherry Webster, James Turner and John Turner and their families; several nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends and neighbors. A Celebration of Eternal Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 from the Mountain City Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hunger Coalition of Watauga County, North Carolina, 417 Meadowview Drive, Boone, North Carolina 28607; Humane Society of Johnson County, P.O.
