Blanche S. Thomas, age 95, of 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, and formerly of 125 Fairview Street, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2003 in the Watauga Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Ashe County, North Carolina and was born August 05, 1908 to the late Adam and Callie Davis Snyder. Blanche was preceded in death by her husband, Asa Thomas, who passed away July 21st 1972, three sisters; Hollie Greer, Maude Price and Grace Massey, two brothers; Ray Russell and Glen Snyder. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of First Freewill Baptist Church. Blanche is survived by two sons; Farris Thomas of Mountain City, Tennessee and Argus Thomas of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, three granddaughters; Janet Cook of Asheville, North Carolina, Laura Thomas of Galt, California and Lisa Thomas of Bend, Oregon, two grandsons, Michael Thomas and Tony Thomas both of Bend, Oregon, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Virgie Rash of Glendale Sprngs, North Carolina and Marie Rash of Todd, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Blanch S. Thomas will be conducted Tuesday, October 21, 2003 from the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral home with Rev. Frank Woods and Rev. Danny Burnham to officiate. Music will be provided by Tony and Cheri Jo Potter. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. prior to services. Graveside Services and Internment will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2003 in the Phillippi Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Ronda Rash, James Rash, Jerry Rash, Joe Mahala, Ronda Martin, Garland Miller, Fred Dowell and Bill Greer. Honorary Pallbearers are: Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Roan Creek Baptist Church, Johnson County Rescue Squad, Dr. John Whitlock and Associates, Doug Hornsby and Staff of the Mountain City Care Center, Mr. Jim Hutchinson and Mr. J.D. Evans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Freewill Baptist Church, 319 Hemlock Street, Mountain City, Tenn 37683 or the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tenn 37683. Pallbearers are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m. at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home to go in procession with the family to the cemetery. Friends may also call at the home of Farris Thomas at any time.
