We are saddened to announce the passing of Brenda Kay Blondell, a truly magnificent lady renowned for her kindness, love, and unwavering encouragement. Born on January 22, 1959, Brenda’s life was a testament to the power of generosity and joy. She departed this world on April 28, 2026, leaving a legacy of warmth and devotion that touched all fortunate enough to know her.
Brenda was a native of Johnson County and a graduate of Johnson County High School, class of 1977. She was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she was a beacon of light, always wearing a smile that invited comfort and companionship. Brenda’s spirit found its fullest expression in community service, especially her passionate involvement with youth. She delighted in hosting gatherings at least twice each year, where fellowship, food, fun, and Bible study blended to nurture young hearts and minds. Known affectionately as “the card lady,” Brenda took great joy in sending cards to shut-ins, spreading solace and kindness through her heartfelt notes.
Her memory is lovingly held by her family and dearest friends. She leaves behind surviving sisters-in-law: Linda Garland of Shady Valley, TN, and Idoma Garland of Butler, TN; and her brother, Charles Garland (Jean) of Arcadia, FL. Brenda’s circle of affection extends through special nieces, LeaAnn Shaffer (Richie) of Bluff City, TN and Renee Hamm (Wayne) of Townsend, DE; as well as niece, Tammy Bobbit of Hampton, TN; great nieces Sarah Davis (Kenny), Mercedes Blakely, Amanda Greene (Todd), and Kayla Jimenez (Elio); great nephews Dylan Shaffer (Savannah) and Bret Shaffer, and her great-great nieces and nephews: Bethany, Sophia, Finley, Harrison, Rayden, Lucas, Sullivan and Sebastian; Among her closest and most treasured friends were Teresa, Ava, Lynn and Bill, Scott, Kevin, and members of her beloved Sunday school class—each of whom cherished her gracious presence.
Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, James Blondell; parents, Fleet and Lucy Garland, and brothers Lester and Harold.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Brenda’s extraordinary life will be held at 6:00 pm, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Sinking Creek Baptist Church, located at 2313 Elizabethton Hwy, Johnson City, Tennessee with Chuck Babbs to officiate.
Brenda Kay Blondell’s enduring legacy is one of boundless kindness, enduring faith, and joyous fellowship. Her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all she inspired, a truly magnificent lady whose spirit will forever uplift and guide those she leaves behind.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Raina Sluder and a special thank you to Summer, Lori, Julie and Weatherly at Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care given to Brenda during her illness.
