Butler Dowell

Butler Garr Dowell, age 71, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Watauga Medical following an extended illness. Mr. Dowell enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. He was a member First Baptist Church of Hammon, Indiana but attended Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. Dowell was a retired state employee of Illinois. Mr. Dowell was born May 21, 1936 to the late John Dowell and Lottie Davis Dowell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dowell was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Dowell. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Anna Hodge Dowell; two daughters, Anita ?Sissy? Hammons and Rebeccia Dowell, both of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sons, Johnny Dowell of Arkansas and Christopher Dowell of Mountain City, Tennessee; one sister, Inez Trivette and husband James of Orrville, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Chris Dowell, Sarah Hammons, Cleve Main, R. J. Main, Stephanie Dixon, Tasha Potter, and Kishia Taylor; one great grandchild, Kaleb Hammons. Also surviving are special friends Edgar Pardue, Glenn Hall, Jr., special Nurse Carolyn Thompson, the ICU nurses at Watauga Medical Center, and many others. Funeral services for Butler Garr Dowell will be conducted Monday, August 13, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Dowell, Rev Ted Lewis, and Rev. Clyde Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 ?8:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services and interment will be conducted Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. from Sunset Memorial Park in Mountain City, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be Roy Hodge, Johnny Davis, Bill Dowell, Gary Nye, Danny Nye, Jimmie Trivette and Randy Cornett. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Whitlock, Watauga Medical Center ICU Staff, Grandchildren, Great grandchild and Glenn Hall, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
