Obituary for: Carol Celesh Carol Celesh. Age 85 passed away Saturday September 30th 2006. She was raised and educated in St. Petersburg, Russia, traveled the world but made her home in the Tennessee Mountains. Carol loved her land in Sugar Hollow, Butler, Tennessee and called herself "The Russian Hillbilly". Carol was a journalist when she married a noted Belarussian author ( 25 years her senior) Mikola Celesh. Together they escaped communist Russia to America with their two daughters where Mikola wrote for Radio Free Europe against communism. Mikola Celesh Pre-deceased Carol. Carol Celesh studied English and business at Columbia University in New York to live the "American Dream". She owned and operated the Florida Villas Motel in Miami, Florida for years. There she met her friend of many years, John Blum, who also preceded her. During her travels, she fell in love with the Tennessee hills, their people and their music and decided to make Tennessee her home. Carol owned and operated the Turnpike Superette on Highway 321 for several years before she retired. Carol Celesh was a bold, colorful and interesting person who lived her full life with energy and joy. She will be missed by her family and many loving friends all over the world . She is survived by two daughters Carol C Brown, of Jacksonville, Florida and Stoney Creek, Tennessee, and Donna Walmsley, of Jacksonville, Florida and Poga, Tennessee. Two Grandchildren, Safia Travino and Brian Walmsley and wife Valerie, both of Jacksonville. Four Great-grandchildren, Justin and Nicholas Travino and Devin and Lawsen Walmsley. A graveside service for Carol will be conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday October 7th 2006 in the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12;30 P.M. at the graveside, until service time at the cemetery.
