Carol Hopkins

February 15, 1948 — February 15, 2025

Carol Spillers Hopkins, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia on her 77th birthday in Jefferson, NC, on February 15, 2025. Carol was preceded in death by her dear parents, Mary Eunice Spillers and Williams Thomas Spillers, and her sister, Mary Warren.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Ronnie Lee Hopkins; her loving daughter, Jennifer Hopkins Rittling, and son-in-law, Craig; her cherished sister, Sue Gilley, and her husband, Jim; her grandsons, Charlie and Henry Rittling; her dear niece, Cindy Brookshire; her nephew, Robbie Harding; and her beloved cats, Rascal, Tom, and Sassy.

Born in Wilson, NC, Carol spent most of her life in Richmond, VA, before moving to Creston, NC, in 2009, where she cherished being close to her sister Sue.  After a dedicated 30-year career with the DMV in Richmond, VA, Carol embraced retirement at age 55, devoting her time to volunteer work and caring for her home, pets, and husband, Ronnie.  She was always dressed for the day, never leaving the house without her hair, nails, and makeup done to perfection. Everywhere she went, she carried her signature smile and charming Southern drawl. Carol loved to decorate and craft, turning every space into a warm, inviting haven with her
personal touch. Her knack for creativity and attention to detail brightened the lives of all who knew her.  Her generous nature and love for laughter made her a joy to be around. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, as her legacy of love and laughter is woven into the cherished memories of family and friends and reflected in every smile she inspired.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Clifton Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Dementia Alliance of North Carolina 9131 Anson Way, Suite 206, Raleigh, NC 27615,  Black Mountain Center Foundation, Inc 932 Old US 70 Hwy, Black Mountain, NC 28711 or SPCA  Ashe Human Society 1400 Mt.
