CPT. Thomas W. Gentry US Army retired, age 80, of 508 Hospital Road, Mountain City passed away Monday, September 5, 2005 in the Veterans Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN following a lengthy illness. He was native of Johnson County and was born September 9, 1924 to the late Lonnie Minton and Jessie Leffman Gentry. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Gentry and a brother, Worley Gentry. Mr. Gentry was the Johnson County Historian for many years, a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he was named 2005 person of the year. A former head of Civil Defense for Johnson County, former Johnson County Hospital Administrator, formed the first Little League in Johnson County, was a radio announcer, active in coordinating Veterans Affairs and was a member of the American Legion. He was a US Army Veteran , which took him all over the World. Survivors include: his wife, Juanita Cunningham Gentry of the home Two Daughters: Marilyn and husband Daryl Beaupre of Lima, Ohio Cindy and husband Alan Baker, Smyrna, TN. Two Sons: Lonnie and wife Cathy Gentry, Lima, Ohio Tom and wife Betty Gentry, Oak Ridge, TN. Two Sisters: Peggy and Husband Tom Naylor of Lima, Ohio Kathleen and her late husband Dave Flory of Lima, Ohio Grandchidlren: Travis Baker, Dillon Baker, Tommy D. Gentry, Kathy Cheek, Keith Newland, John Newland, Chris Newland, Eva Miller, Kerri Gentry, Lindsey Gentry and Jason Gentry. Great Grandchidlren: Katie cheek, Jennifer Gentry, Kane Vastano, Kailey Miller, Joshua Gentry, Kayla Gentry, Lauren Gentry, Jonathan Gentry and soon to be born, Luke Gentry Baker. A number of Nieces and Nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a. m. Thursday, September 8, 2005 from the Henson Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. Military Graveside services will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard at the Reece Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Cliff Dunn, Jack Cress, Keith Newland, Chris Newland, Travis Baker, Bob Frei, John Cheek, Alan Baker, Daryl Beaupre and Dillon Baker. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jack Swift, Dennis Henson, Dr. Alainya Hare, Terry Anderson, Dr. Buddy Clayton, Eugene Hicks, Nolan Morris, Mike Flaharty, Kenny Johnson, Danny Cunningham, Paula Anson, Karen Anderson and Ted Shores. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, September 7, 2005 from the Henson Funeral Home. Friends may call at the Funeral Home or the residence, 508 Hospital Road, Mountain City at anytime. In lieu of flowers those who desire may make donations to the American Red Cross, 116 Holston Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
