Daniel Walter Junior Joines

Daniel Walter "Junior" Joines, age 72, of 331 Joines Road, Creston, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 a t the Ashe Living Center following an extended illness. A native of Ashe County, North Carolina, he was born May 18, 1932 to the late Walter and Della Ruppard-Joines. Daniel was a retired farmer. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korea War, where he earned the Bronze Star. Daniel was a member of Hammons Chapel Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Viola Hammons Joines of the home; one daughter, Barbara Hampton of Mountain City, Tennessee; one son, Mike Joines and wife Kathy of Warrensville, North Carolina; three sisters, Doris Hammons, Mary Lee McCoy, both of Creston, North Carolina and JoAnn Arnold of Mountain City, Tennessee; two brothers, Herbert Joines of Mountain City, Tennessee and Charlie Ray Joines of Creston, North Carolina; two granddaughters and three great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Daniel will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Smith to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Hammons Chapel Church Choir. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. prior to Services at the Chapel. Military Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2004 from the Hammons Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Jack McCoy, Bill McCoy, Van Arnold, Chad Joines, Dwight Brooks and Dennis Pennington. Honorary Pallbearers are: Harold Hammons, Donnie Jones, Larry Henson, Walter McCoy, Bill Payne, Tom Payne, Jerry Payne and Doug Hammons. At other times, friends may call at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charity of Your Choice.
