Darlene L. Gentry Barry Church, age 70, of 205 Ralph Berry Road, Shady Valley, Tennessee passed away March 11, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Shady Valley, she was baron January 17, 1934 to Versie Long Gentry and the late Clyde Gentry. Darlene was a 1953 Graduate of Johnson County High School, a former employee of the Blue Ridge Shoe Company and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Darlene enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. Darlene was preceded in death by her father, first husband, Ralph Eugene Barry and her second husband, Ray Church. In addition to her mother, Darlene is survived by two daughters; Deborah Leslie and husband Glenn and Denise Barry; all of Shady Valley, one granddaughter, Lee Andra Brooks and husband Greg; two great grandsons; Quinten Brooks and Aden Brooks all of Bristol,Virginia, three sisters; Shelby Gray of Richmond, Virginia, Shirley McCroskey and husband Jackie of Abingdon, Virginia and Barbara Gregory and husband Dan of Meadowview, Virginia; two brothers, Norman Gentry and wife Dolores of Shady Valley and Dean Gentry and wife Loretta of Elizabethton, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Darlene will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2004 from the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church with Dr. Tom Peake to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Church Choir Family will receive friends 4-5:00 p.m. prior to Services. Graveside Services will follow at the Shady Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Larry Gentry, Robert Gentry, Harry Bentley, Gerald Buckles, Kenneth McQueen and Charles McQueen. Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. John Whitlock, Olan Bentley, Wiley Taylor, Doug Noonkester, Rick Campbell, Georgia Bentley, Thelma Pierce and Church friends of the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department, or the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683. Friends may also call at the residence of Deborah Leslie, 822 Winchester Road, Shady Valley, Tennessee at anytime.
