Listen to Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, David “BO” Brownlow Mains who went home peacefully on February 8th, 2026 surrounded by those who loved him most, his family.

David was a beloved husband who loved his wife dearly. Their bond was one of devotion, partnership and deep love. In his final season, she cared for him with unwavering strength, tenderness and selflessness—staying by his side until the very end. Her love was his comfort, his peace, and a reflection of the life they built together.

David was the definition of hard work and strength. He taught his children the value of a dollar, the importance of earning what you have, and that nothing in life is given without effort. More than anything, he showed us the value of family and took deep pride in the life and family he built. He was the hardest working man we knew—strong in body, steady in spirit, and relentless in his determination. When faced with his greatest battle, he fought with the same grit and courage that defined his life. He fought all the way to the end, and in his passing, he finally claimed his victory.

David retired from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro after 34 years. He loved watching westerns and sports, visiting yard sales and flea markets and collecting antiques.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jane Mains; sisters, Nancy Brown, Alice Robinson and Lisa Hackney. David is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Mains; sister, Paulette Watkins; daughters, Hollie Meldau and husband Daniel, Heather Mains and husband Dylan, Melissa Cornett; his son, David “Brian” Mains and wife Josie; grandchildren, Lukas and Makenzie Meldau, Gavin, Oaklyn and Easton Reynolds, David “Beckett” Mains, many nieces and nephews he loved dearly and lifelong friend, Garner Icenhour.

While our hearts are broken, we cling to the promise of scripture and the hope of eternity. We find peace knowing that he is healed, whole, and resting in the arms of Jesus. We rejoice in knowing that this goodbye is not forever, but simply “until we see you again”.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm, on Friday, February 13, at Forbis & Dick, Pleasant Garden Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 2:00, with the burial following at Guil-Rand Memorial Park Cemetery in High Point. Following the graveside service, the family invites friends and loved ones to gather in the cabin at Guil-Rand Memorial Park.
