David Smith

David Smith, age 73, passed into the next life while asleep in his home on a sunny afternoon. He was born in Pennington Gap, VA to the late Pearl and Cecil Smith. He attended Hiwassee College and ETSU. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older siblings, Sandra Kay Bloomer and Jerry Smith.

He loved playing music with his friends and family. He will be remembered for his beautiful guitar playing, and for his gentle, supportive spirit. He has been a social worker, a whitewater raft guide, a special ed teacher, a massage therapist, a homesteader, an off-grid lifestyle enthusiast, and a lifelong student of math, science and philosophy. He loved solitude and being surrounded by nature.

He is survived by his brother Rick Smith, wife Amanda Smith, daughters, Jessica Muncy and Sarah Smith, 6 nieces and nephews, and 4 grandchildren.

It was David's wish to be cremated, and no formal services held. Donations may be made in David's memory to the Nature Conservancy.
