D.C. Pierce, age 53, of 2580 Lumpkin Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, following an extended illness. A native of Mountain City, Tennessee, D.C. was born on August 1, 1951 to Georgia Nell Grindstaff Pierce and the late Delmer C. Pierce. He was a 1969 Graduate of Johnson County High School. D.C. was a former Chief of Police for the Mountain City Police Department, where he had 28 years of Service. He was a Lifetime Member of the Johnson County Rescue Squad and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.). He was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. D.C. is survived by his wife of 33 Years, Mary Jane Woodward-Pierce, of the home; one son, Christopher Pierce of the home; one daughter, Shannon Wood and husband Charlie of Mountain City; his mother, Georgia Nell Grindstaff-Pierce of Butler; one sister, Carolene Pierce and Special Friend Lawrence McGlamery, of Butler and one grandchild, Makayla Wood of Mountain City. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral Services for D.C. will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freddie Arnold, Minister Bud Gentry and Rev. Ron Owens to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Bud and Nancy Gentry and Freddie Arnold Jr. Graveside Services and Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2004 from the Rock Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Jeff Shaw, Ed Hoak, Willie DeBord, Joe Barlow, Danny Cullop, Blaine Branch. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bob Garland, Bob Graybeal, Dwayne Potter, Tim Graybeal, Jim Payne, R.L. Poole, Dean Campbell, R.D. Campbell, Bruce McGlamery, Kenneth Gernentz, Dr. Floyd Barker, Rev. Carl Swift, Bob Taylor Mountain City Police Department, Mountain City Fire Department, Johnson County Rescue Squad The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to Services at the Funeral Home.
