Dennis W. Bowman, age 82, of 687 Furnace Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2004 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Butler, Tennessee, he was born September 2nd, 1921 to the late Thomas and Mollie Moody Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; Derwin Bowman, Darcy Bowman, Dalton Bowman and Thomas Bowman Jr., two sisters; Sergie Bowman and Sudie Russell, one niece; Lois Ann Bowman and daughter-in-law; Robin Bowman. Dennis was a former employee of Speery Univac of Bristol, Tennessee and was an employee of the Johnson County Health Department and a life-long farmer. He was a Deacon at the Community Church of Shouns, Tennessee. Dennis was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Army where he was also the recipient of the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Katherine Landers Bowman, of the home, three daughters; Chanetta Bowman of the home, Denise Dugger of Mountain City and Maricka Bowman of Butler, one son; Lamarr Bowman of Mountain City, son-in-law; Steve Crisp of Mountain City, one sister; Georgia Bowman of Houston, Texas, one brother; Ernest Bowman of Flint, Michigan, three grandchildren; Kaleena Dugger of Mountain City, Cheynne Bowman of Konnarock,Virginia and Zackary Combs of Butler and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Dennis will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Drake and Rev. Ernie Widby to officiate. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to services at the Chapel. Military Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004 from the Sunset Memorial Park and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be the Johnson County Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ricahrd Bristol, Kenneth Haglar, George Wellington, Paul Brown, Tom Wilson, Ed Baker, Cliff Johnson and Members of the FSA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 N, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683 or the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
