Donna Carol Sluder Mcqueen

Donna Carol Sluder McQueen, age 48, of Laurel Bloomery, formerly of Shady Valley, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC following an extended illness. She was a daughter of Bessie Lou Stanley Sluder and the late Loyd "Junior" Sluder. Donna was a former employee of Levi Strauss and Duke Power Company. She was a member of Shady Valley Christian Church. Her hobbies included reading, visiting neighbors, walking and watching TV. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald McQueen, an uncle, Bill Stanley, paternal grandparents, Loyd and Cornie Sluder, and maternal grandparents, Alfred and Judy Stanley. Donna loved everyone and everyone was special to Donna. In addition to her mother, Bessie Sluder, survivors include: three sisters: Wanda Floyd and friend Darren Hannah; Sandra Bitter and husband David, all of Mountain City, TN; Mary Dowell and husband Wes of Butler, TN; one stepdaughter: Tina Lipford and husband Dan of Mountain City, TN; one stepson: Brian McQueen and wife Heather of Bristol, VA; step grandchildren: Dakotah Campbell, Makenzie McQueen and Drettman McQueen; nine much loved nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Donna Carol Sluder McQueen will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. J.E. Stanley and Mr. Bob Stout officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral. Active pallbearers will be Brian McQueen, Cody Marlow, Darren Hannah, Wes Dowell, David Bitter and Bill Icenhour. Honorary pallbearers will be ICU Staff of Watauga Medical Center, Dr. Susanne Shine and Dan Lipford. Burial will be on Thursday in Johnson Cemetery.
