Doris Joines Hammons

Doris Joines Hammons, age 86, of 334 South Flatwoods Road, Creston, N.C, passed away on Friday, November 18th, 2005 at the Watauga County Medical Center, Boone, N.C. following an brief illness. Ms. Hammons was born January 16th, 1919 in White Top, Virginia to the late Walter Joines and Della Rupard Joines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Hammons in 2000 and one brother, Walter Joines Jr. Ms. Hammons was a member of the Hammons Chapel Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and was formerly employed with Levis, Leco, and the Dollar General of Mountain City and was also a homemaker. Survivors include two Daughters: Jan Dancy, and Husband Dean, West Jefferson, N.C.; Susan Brooks and husband Dwight, Warrensville, N.C.; a son Harold Hammons and Wife, Doris L. Hammons, West Jefferson, N.C.; two sisters Mary Lee McCoy, Creston, N.C., and Joann Arnold, Mountain City, Tennessee. two brothers: Herbert Joines, Mountain City, Tennessee, and Charlie Joines, Creston, N.C.; two Grandchildren: Mitzi Trivett and Husband Trent, West Jefferson, N.C. and Jake Dancy, West Jefferson, N.C.; one Great Granddaughter, Jaydn Trivett West Jefferson, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Doris Joines Hammons will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2005 from the Hammons Chapel Christian Church with Mr. Mike Smith to officiate. Graveside Services and Burial will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 20th 2005 from the Hammons Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Mike Joines, Chad Joines, Van Arnold, Jack McCoy, Bill McCoy and Walter McCoy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Peter Hiabach. The Family will receive friends on Saturday from 5 until 7 P.M. at the Hammons Chapel Christian Church. At other times friends may call at the family residence, 334 South Flatwoods Road, Creston, N.C., at anytime. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hammons Chapel Church Building Fund, 1631 Hwy 91 N., Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
