Doris Jean Proffitt, age 73 passed away peacefully Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Mountain City Care Center with her daughter Ruby by her side. She was born July 27, 1943 to the late Merritt Charles Hopper and Ruby Jean Applett Hopper. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dorcy Proffitt. Doris was a member of Butler Ruritan and she loved roses, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include: two daughters: Gloria Hathorn and husband Leon of Butler, TN and Ruby White and husband Tim of Peru, IN; one son: Charles Proffitt and wife Darlene of Butler, TN; one sister: Carol Seibert of Sweet Home, OR; one brother: Wayne Hopper of Sweet Home, OR; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and all her special friends at Mountain City Care Center also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mountain City Care Center and Caris Hospice staff for the care given to Doris.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 2017 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will follow in Proffitt Cemetery in Butler, TN.
