Edward "Ed" Grindstaff, age 76, of 762 Circle Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at the Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol, Tennessee. A native of Johnson County, he was born on November 16, 1927 to the late Danial and Ada Proffitt Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Grindstaff and one sister, Lena Garland. Ed was a former teacher of the Johnson County School System and Principal at Shouns Elementary School. He was a member of the Tennessee Retired Teachers Association. Ed was a member of Midway Baptist Church but had attended First Baptist Church. Ed is survived by his wife, Mary W. Grindstaff, of the home; two sisters, Leta Lewis and Myrtle Forrester, both of Mountain City; three nieces and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Ed will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman Reece and Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Danny Cullop. Graveside Services and Interment will follow Services from the Rock Springs Cemetery, Butler, Tennessee. Active Pallbearers will be: Loyd McEwen, Chris Reece, Bill Brookshire, Paul Fletcher, Ross Arnold and Harry Wills. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Prior to Services at the Funeral Home Chapel. At other times, friends may call at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Midway Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Karen Livingston, 2071 Little Dry Run Road, Butler, Tennessee 37640.
