Edwin R. Sturdivant, age 76, of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 12, 2007. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 8, 1931 and was the son of the late Edwin Robinson Sturdivant and Dorothy Bennett Sturdivant. He attended Ogelthorpe University and was a graduate of Columbia University. He was an Army veteran having served in the Korean War. Edwin worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Marietta, Georgia and for Bell Telephone Company in San Angelo, Texas. The remainder of his career was spent with Schering Plough Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee as Vice President of Human Resources and Industrial Relations. He and Mary, his wife of 31 years, moved to Mountain City in 1991. He was formerly active in the Chamber of Commerce, the Johnson County Humane Society, the Hiking Club, and as a member of the Retiree Recruitment Committee. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Kay, and a sister, Marguerite Nolan of Atlanta. He is survived by his wife Mary and by a former wife Elizabeth; three daughters: Elizabeth Kerr and husband Jonathan of Ft. Worth, Texas; Victoria McCoy and husband Mike of Memphis, Tennessee; Angela Sturdivant of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren: Annie, Madeleine and Christopher Kerr; step-children: Lydia Henderson of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Ben Douglas of Memphis, Tennessee; and Scott Douglas and family of Nashville, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 28th, 2007 at 5 P.M. from the First United Methodist Church. It was his request to be cremated and his ashes scattered in Pandale, Texas where he spent happy days camping and caving. Memorials donations may be made to Johnson County Humane Society, 720 T.
