Elizabeth Mae Icenhour Dunn

August 1, 1942 — August 13, 2024

Elizabeth Mae Icenhour Dunn, age 82, of Mountain City, Tennessee went to be with the Lord Jesus on August 13, 2024 at her home with family surrounding her. She was born August 1st, 1942, in Johnson County to the late Sam and Vina Brookshire Icenhour. Lizzie was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Lizzie was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years and the love of her life, Ernest Albert Dunn who went home to be with the Lord on November 18, 1998. Lizzie was the youngest of eleven Icenhour children. She was preceded in death by all her brothers and sisters: Marvin Icenhour, Elmer Icenhour (Wanda), John Icenhour (Ann), Joel Icenhour, Milburn Icenhour (Mary), Clyner Icenhour (Myrtle), Warren Icenhour (Margaret), Jim Icenhour (Villis), Betty Kate Icenhour who died as an infant, and Bonne Wilcox (John).

Lizzie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She met the love of her life in 1958 at Rexall Drug Store. They enjoyed dates at the Taylor Theatre, Courtesy Drug, and King Bee. Ernest and Lizzie were married on April 22nd, 1959, by preacher Bruce
South at his home with his wife Mae as their witness. Lizzie traveled with her military husband to several countries and lived in various locations during Ern’s time in the military. Ernest served two tours in Vietnam during war time shortly after they were married and Lizzie returned to Mountain City during this time. She traveled to Germany with Ernest and lived there for approximately three years. When they returned to the US, they made their home in Columbia, South Carolina until Ernest retired from the military in 1975 after 20 years of service. After retirement, Ernest and Lizzie came home to Mountain City, Tennessee and the mountains that they loved, where they spent the remainder of their lives together in their home on Deer Run Road. Lizzie was a devoted housewife for several years of her life and she spent most of her life loving on her children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was active in her church in Columbia, South Carolina when her children were younger. She worked in various jobs throughout her life including Jean’s Pik N Chik Restaurant, Atlantic Thrift, JCPenney in South Carolina and at Levi’s and Omnivision as a caregiver when returning to Mountain City. Lizzie was a wonderful cook, and it is safe to say that her favorite role was taking care of her family. She devoted most of her life to doing this. Ernest and Lizzie were also members of the VFW and American Legion.

Lizzie is survived by a large family that loved her dearly including four children: Donna Miller, Mark Dunn (Mary), Yvonne Sutherland (David), and Tim Dunn (Lisa). Fourteen grandchildren: Wendy Henley (Leon), Amanda Fletcher (Uriah), Stephanie Reece (Chad), Beth Henson (Brandon), Andrea Hicks (Eric), Tiffani Dunn, Vanessa Sutherland, Brandon Miller, Megan Lewis (Hunter), Ayla Welch (Caleb), Brittani Riddle (Josh), Trista Dunn, Teyton Dunn, and Shirley Piatt (Jeff). The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm on Saturday, August 17th, 2024 at Corinth Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 2pm with pastor Billy Morefield officiating.
