Elsie Mae Payne Nichols, age 97, of 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 17, 2007 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born in Shouns, Tennessee on February 22, 1909 to the late Bynum and Olive (Hammons) Payne. In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Nichols and a sister, Freida Payne. She was a retired seam stress. Elsie was a member of Hammons Chapel Christian Church. She is survived by two sisters: Carrie Taylor and Lucy Payne of Mountain City, Tennessee; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl Payne and Stella, also of Mountain City, Tennessee; many special nephews and nieces and many, many special, dear friends. Funeral Services for Elsie M. Nichols will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2007 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Smith officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Walter Simcox and Ms. Grace Davis. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. prior to the Services, at the funeral home. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2007 from the Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers are: Barton Hall, Douglas Hammons, Clarence Braden, Jim McKinnis, Earl Farmer and Boyd Hammons.
