Erleen Hammons Taylor, age 91, of 3111 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away September 25, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Johnson County, Erleen was born May 20, 1912 to the late W.E. Hammons and Ida Payne Hammons. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dewey Taylor, who passed away February 2001, two brothers; Ernest and Eddie Hammons and two sisters; Thelma Grindstaff and Bonnie Gentry. Ms. Taylor was a Graduate of ETSU, where she received her Bachelor's Degree, Retired from the Johnson County School System where she taught for 30 years, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Tennessee Education Association and the Johnson County Education Association. Ms. Taylor enjoyed gardening, sewing, flowers and had taught the Ladies Sunday School Class at Hammons Chapel Christian Church where she was a member. Survivors are: (6) Nephews: Joe Taylor, Tom Taylor, Willie Hammons all of Mountain City, Tennessee Lynn Hammons, Gray Station, Tennessee Jimmy Hammons, Bristol, Tennessee Larry Hammons, Jonesborough, Tennessee (4) Nieces: Jean Chappell, Sanford, North Carolina Ann Taylor, Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee Cathy Hinkle, Lexington, North Carolina Margie Wood , Simpsonville, South Carolina Special Friend: Shirley Hedges of Mountain City, Tennessee Funeral Services for Erleen Taylor, age 91, of 3111 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003 from the Hammons Chapel Christian Church with Mr. Mike Smith and Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Hammons Chapel Christian Church Choir. Graveside Services will follow in the Taylor Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grand Nephews. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2003 at the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home.
