Ernest ?Ernie? Fifer, age 87, of 200 Woodland Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee on Monday, December 17, 2007. Ernie is survived by his wife of 17 years, Selma Shoun Fifer. He has one daughter: Jerri Lee Broyles of Franklin, North Carolina; two sons: Ernest A. ?Rusty? Fifer of Franklin, North Carolina and Eugene ?Gene? Tyson Fifer of Charlottesville, Virginia; one stepson: James E. Morley of Morgantown, West Virginia; one sister: Wilma Heinemeyer of Lewistown, Idaho; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Ernie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as a supervisor from the U.S. Postal Service in Miami, Florida. Ernie spent most of his retirement years in Mountain City, Tennessee which he felt was the most beautiful place on earth. He was a member and Elder of the Mountain City Presbyterian Church. Ernie suffered a stroke in 2002 and was paralyzed on the left side but he maintained his gentle spirit and sense of humor. He was certainly a Christian example and will be greatly missed. The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jim Shine for his care and concern during the past years, the Johnson County Hospital and ER Staff, and also to Janice Woodard and Amedisys Health Care. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2007 at Mountain City Presbyterian Church accorded by Johnson County Honor Guard. Services and eulogies will be conducted by Dr. Thomas Peake; Rev. Warren Stewart; Jim Swoager, CLP; and Rev. James Morley. Music will be under the direction of Sherry Tester; soloist Ted Gentry. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be members of Mountain City Presbyterian Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Shine, Robert Glenn, Ed Cook, John Forrester and Cliff Gratch. Inurnment will be held at the Eastridge Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683 or the Mountain City Presbyterian Church, 517 Fairground Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
