Evelyn R. Groves

Evelyn R. Groves, age 60, of 490 Flatwoods Post Office Road, Creston, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 5, 1946 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Lundy Howard Perry and Bessie Matilda Lewis Perry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Wayne Perry and Andrew Perry. Evelyn was a Postmaster for the Grayson Post Office. She attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church and had also attended the Baptist Church. Evelyn enjoyed quilting, gardening, crafts and most of all, being a grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Francis Groves of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Holly and James Miller West Jefferson, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Linda Groves of Creston, North Carolina; one sister, Ruth Coldiron of Landenburg, Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law, Esther Perry of Creston, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Kelsie Evelyn Hitchcock of West Jefferson, North Carolina; one step grandson, Dustin James Miller of West Jefferson, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews and many, many special friends. Funeral Services for Evelyn R. Groves will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2006 from the Chapel of Henson Funeral Home with Rev. Denton Hart and Mark to officiate. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. prior to the Service at the funeral home. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Sunset Memorial Park, Mountain City, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be family members. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Evelyn Groves Memorial Fund, c/o Henson Funeral Home, 1141 Cold Springs Road, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
