Miss Florence E. Tucker, age 81, of Asbury Center, 400 North Boone Street, Johnson City, Tennessee and formerly of Butler, Tennessee passed away Monday, July 16, 2007
at Asbury Center following an extended illness. She was a native of Old Butler, Tennessee and a daughter of the late Herbert and Matilda Burton Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Charles, Ellis, Elbert, Warren, and Troy Tucker. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Rhoda T. Shuey. Florence was a graduate of the Watauga Academy and East Tennessee State University. She retired as a State of Tennessee employee having served as County Director of the Department of Human Services in Johnson County. She was of the Baptist faith and a former active member of the Butler OES #218 where she served as a Worthy Matron. Florence belonged to numerous clubs and committees which promoted the growth and development of Johnson County. She helped start 911 in Johnson County and did a cancer study in Kentucky. She was a lover of competitive sports and followed the Los Angeles Dodger Baseball Team from elementary school days.

Survivors include one sister, Louise Tucker Pleasant, of Butler, Tennessee; three nieces, Trula Haley, of Butler, Tennessee; Linda Jewett of Doylestown, Ohio and Jenny Farthing of Canada; nephews, Dick and Mike Pleasant of Butler, Tennessee and special nephew, Sidney Smithdeal, Butler, Tennessee

A celebration of life service for Miss Tucker will be conducted on Sunday, July, 22, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Hughes and Ms. Mona Sweeney officiating. Music will be under the direction of Chris and Tona Hughes. Inurnment will be in the Butler Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home at any time. For those who desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Butler Museum, P. O. Box 261, Butler, Tennessee 37640 or the building fund of Little Doe Baptist Church, 223 Doe Creek Road, Butler, Tennessee, or the charity of your choice.
