Mr. Fred B. Landers, age 87, of 919 Medical Park Drive and formerly of 689 Furnace Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at the Watauga Medical Center in Boone, North Carolina. A native of Johnson County, Tennessee, he was born January 8, 1918 to the late Peter Hardin Landers and Lillie Preston Landers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: William, Floyd, Bruce, Frank and Walter Landers; and two sisters: Ella Mae and Geneva Landers. Mr. Landers was a member of the A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church, a retired Chef, and was a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Landers enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. Surviving are three sisters: Anna B. Grimes, Boone, NC; Mary Landers Goins, Bristol, TN; and Lillian Katherine Bowman, Mountain City, TN and one brother, James E. Landers, Bluefield, WV. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside Services for Mr. Fred B. Landers will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005 from the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee and will be conducted by Rev. Ernest E. Widby Jr and Rev. Ron Drake. Honorary Pallbearers are: Nephews of Mr. Landers and Dr. John Whitlock.
