Freddie C. Bays

Freddie C. Bays, born September 12, 1948, lost a lengthy battle with cancer on May 3, 2025 at the Johnson City Medical Center.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie McFadden Bays Matheson; father, Ernest Howard Bays; step-father, Billy Hoover Matheson and two brothers, Benjamin Wiley and Jimmie Dale.

He is survived by one sister, Nora Lee Philyaw (Bobby) and five brothers, Franklin Robert (Naomi), Ted Maxwell, Edward (Bo) Glenn, John Dulles (Kathy) and Blair Scott (Melissa).  His nieces, Christine, Bays (Michael), Elizabeth Bays berry (Ronny), (Trisha) Gragg (Doug), Mary Ellen Bays, And Martha (Ralph) Holman (Heath); his nephews, Bobby Stalnaker (Beth), Johnny Bays (Christy), David Bays (Marylin), Jesse Bays (Rhonda) and David G Bays.  He was also survived by several great nieces and great nephews and many life long friends.

Freddie loved playing pool, listening to '70's music, and watching old westerns.  He loved animals and will be missed by his cat, Bo.  He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with everyone he met.  He was a character who loved to laugh.  He was a retired roofer and loved reminiscing about all the roofs he had put on in this county.

A funeral service for Freddie will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Hux & Lipford Fuenral Home with David Hankle officiating.   The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.  A graveside service will immediately follow in Sunset Memorial  Park.  At other times friends may visit the home at 137 Rine street, Mountain City.

The pallbearers will be John Bays, Teddy Bays, Heath Holman, Benson Price, Bobby Stalnaker and Austin Bradley.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hux & Lipford Funeral Home to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
