Gale J. Mabe, age 78, of 303 Shouns Street, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away October 27, 2003 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his mother Armanda Giles, one brother; John Mabe, one sister Bunie Lunsford and a great grandson; Jason Scott. Mr. Mabe worked as a welder in Pennsylvania and after retirement, returned to Mountain City to make his home. He had been actively involved in his Church and had served as a Deacon, Choir Director and sang bass for the Evangelistic Gospel Quartet. In recent years, Mr. Mabe was ordained into Ministry and served as Chaplin for the Senior Citizens Living. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain City for the past 10 years. Mr. Mabe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Earleen Mabe of the home, four daughters; Helen Gill and Husband Jim of Abingdon, Virginia, Shirley Trent and Husband Bob of Meadowview, Virginia, Brenda Salmons and Paul Miller of Butler, Tennessee, Carolyn Clark and Husband Dennis of Meadowview, Virginia, two sons; Tom Mabe and Wife Diane of New London, Pennsylvania, Ray Mabe of Mountain City, Tennessee, seventeen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Funeral Services for Gale J. Mabe will be conducted 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003 from the First Baptist Church of Mountain City with Rev. Norman Reece, Rev. Frank Woods and Brother Jeff Stout to officiate. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum of Love at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2003. Active Pallbearers are: Grandsons, Joe Salmons, Tim Mabe, Chris Mabe, Brother Jeff Stout, Bobby Reece and Steve Gill. Honorary Pallbearers are: Rodney York, Roy Isaacs, Ray Payne, Lee Stewart, First Baptist Church Sunday School Class, all of the Doctors and Nurses involved in his excellent care and all of his "buddies" at Hardee's. Pallbearers are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m. at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. Hux-Lipford Funeral Home is serving the Mabe Family.
