Gary Wayne Laws, Sr., age 51, of 318 Wayne Laws Road, Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Johnson County, he was born on September 14, 1952 to Wayne Laws and the late Ola Mae Fletcher-Laws, who passed away January 1, 2004. In addition to his mother, Gary was also preceded in death by one sister, JoAnn Laws. He was an employee of the Johnson County Highway Department. Gary was an active member of Dyson Grove Baptist Church and was a Mandolin Player for the Church Choir. Gary enjoyed playing music and was a member of the Rockhill Band in which he was also a Mandolin Player and Lead Vocals. Gary is survived by his wife of 32 years, Wanda Crowder Laws, of the home; his father, Wayne Laws of Butler; one daughter, Missy Taylor and husband Kenneth of Mountain City; two sons, Gary Wayne Laws Jr. of the home and Daniel Keith Laws and wife Tammy of Butler; one sister, Kathy Garland of Butler; one brother, Ronnie Laws of Butler; two grandchildren, Brittany and Amber Taylor, several nieces and nephews and two special friends, Nellie Snyder of Mountain City and Rachel Hoyle of Elizabethton. Funeral Services for Gary will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004 from the Dyson Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard Fletcher to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Dyson Grove Baptist Church Choir and the Fletcher Family. The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to Services at the Dyson Grove Baptist Church. Graveside Services and Interment will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Mike Treadway, Bob Mink, Gerald Combs, Tim Laws, Dean Fletcher, Junior Potter, David Hampton and Jim Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. David Wiles, Wes Perry, Dr. Robert Taylor, Dr Jones, Dr. Jeff Farrow and all of the Staff of the Neuro ICU of Johnson City Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society/ Johnson County Cancer Support Group, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 North, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
