Gene Houser, of North Church Street, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2005. A native of Centerville, Iowa, he was the son of the late Earl and Blanche Houser. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife Emeline Butler Houser. He had retired from the Tennessee Department of Employment Security and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain City. Gene was a United States Navy Veteran having served in World War II. Gene is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dan Negris of Griffin, Georgia; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Diane Houser of Johnson City, Tn; one sister, Erelene Pavlik of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jonathan Houser, Chris Geagley, David Riddle, Cassie Verner and Sarah Negris and five great grandchildren, Sage, Karter and Kattie Geagley and Cara and Austin Verner. Funeral Services for Gene will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2005 from the First United Methodist Church of Mountain City with Rev. Larry Rye to officiate. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Mountain View Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Matt Geagley, Sage Geagley, Jack Greer, Jonathan Houser, Dan Negris, David Riddle and Justin Verner. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. -2:30 p.m. prior to the Services at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mountain City, 128 North Church Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
