Gerald Denzle Shepherd, age 74, of 1651 Hwy 133, Shady Valley, Tennessee passed away Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Mountain City Care Center, Mountain City, Tennessee. He was born February 9, 1933 to Osie Gentry Shepherd and the late Wiley Shepherd. Mr. Shepherd was a member of Shady Valley Baptist Church. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, hiking, fishing, gardening, and especially loved playing with his grandchildren. Mr. Shepherd was an Army veteran having served during the Korean War. In addition to his father, he was preceded by one brother, Alton Shepherd.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Shepherd of the home; four sons: Robert Wayne Shepherd and wife Lillian of Amherst, Ohio; Larry Shepherd and wife Celeste of Avon Lake, Ohio; Greg Shepherd and Kristy Snyder, both of Elyria, Ohio; Mitchell Shepherd and wife Gwyn of Lorain, Ohio; three sisters: Wanda Long of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Velma Perry and husband Lee of Lake City, Florida; and Coleen McCarthy and husband Ed of Redding, California; one brother, Lonnie Shepherd and wife Trula of Mountain City, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many special friends and family.
Funeral services for Gerald Denzle Shepherd will be conducted Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at ll:00 a.m. from the Shady Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Stout and Rev. Derl McCloud officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Shady Valley Memorial Gardens accorded by Johnson County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Tracy Shepherd, Shannon Shepherd, Ely Shepherd, Larry Shepherd, Jack Eshelman and Tom Garland. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 25, 2007 from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the East Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home.
