Gertrude Proffitt Tester

Obituary for Gertrude Proffitt Tester: Gertrude Proffitt Tester, age 88, of 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, TN formerly of 215 Joe Tester Lane went home to be with the Jesus from the Johnson City Medical Center, Tuesday, November 23, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Carrie Mae Morefield Proffitt. Gertrude was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, she loved her church and was faithful to it as long as her health allowed. She loved gardening, sewing and cooking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe Tester, sisters Bertha Arnold and Ruth Grindstaff. Mrs. Tester was a homemaker and a former employee of Blue Ridge Shoe Company for several years. Survivors include one sister, Wilma Rhymer of Mountain City, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Gertrude Tester will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Simcox and Rev. Jim Norman will officiate. Music will be by Zellarhea Hammons, Ann Cress and Sherry Tester. Pallbearers will be David Rhymer, Benny Grindstaff, Rick Moore, Sam Wilson, Jim Tester, Desi Ward, Doug King, and Billy Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Cress, Bob Pratt, Michael Stout, Howard Stout, Jeff Tester, and Todd Tester. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at the church prior to the service. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010.
