Gladys Greer Blackburn, age 77, of Kingsport, Tennessee and formally of 112 Copley Branch Road, Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Holston Valley Medical Center of Kingsport, Tennessee. A native of Butler, Tennessee, she was born on February 17, 1929 to the late Wiley and Elva Triplett Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: Elbert Blackburn and James Blackburn; one son-in-law, Fred Parsons Jr.; two sisters: Trula Mae Greer and Irene Greer and four brothers: Butler Greer, Truett Greer, Glenn Greer and Harry Greer. Gladys was a former employee of Levi Strauss & Company. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. She was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. Gladys is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carl Blackburn; three daughters: Audrey Parsons of Kingsport, Tennessee, Shirley Witcher and husband Doc, Debra Reichert and husband Mike, all of Bakersfield, California; four brothers: Orville Greer of Elizabethton, Tennessee, Herbert Greer of Johnson City, Tennessee, Avery "Tom" Greer of Bristol, Tennessee and Richard Greer, also of Johnson City, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Gladys Greer Blackburn will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Alan Koch to officiate. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, prior to the Services, at the funeral home. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 from the Blackburn Family Cemetery, Copley Road, Butler, Tennessee. Active Pallbearers will be: Mike Harris, Fred Parsons III, Darrell Ward, Mike Reichert, Mike Warden and Wayne Gilliam. Honorary Pallbearers are: Staff of Brookhaven Manor of Kingsport, Ruth Williams and Sue Carol Ward. Condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.hux-lipford.com.
