Harold Phillip Dingus

May 27, 1956 — November 21, 2024

Harold Phillip Dingus, our Phil, Daddio, Phil Father, beloved partner, brother, son, and friend, died peacefully on Thursday, November 21st, 2024, at age 68 — far too soon.

Born in Abingdon, Virginia, he was joined later by his little sister, Suzie. He read the whole World Book set as just a boy with his pet beagle Jubilee by his side, he was known lifelong for his encyclopedic knowledge, enduring love for all dogs and underdogs, his delicious cooking, and his warm bear hugs and heart. Phil’s life took him all over: hiking White Top; a youth ambassador trip to Germany; singing out a beautiful tenor voice in church, at over 100 concerts, in his barbershop quartet; making mischief with his Emory & Henry fraternity brothers; serving up Mule Burgers in his Mississippi country store Lake Market; and finally settling down with his girl in their Mountain City, TN, home.

He was a man of many trades, and proudly left this world as a counselor and aid worker in the wake of Hurricane Helene. He believed God is Love; he was a vibrant storyteller, jokester, progressive, bibliophile, Methodist, singer, romantic, and adoring father. Those who will always miss him are his sweetheart, Lori Leisey; his children Edy (Nah), Jonny (Seinna), and Charlie (Tricia); his parents Harold and Joann (deceased) and sister Suzie (Neal); and a great host of family and friends. His wake will be held at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home in Mountain City, TN on Wednesday, November 27th, from 4-7pm and a Celebration of Life will take place in Spring 2025 at his beloved Emory & Henry College (details TBA). Donations may be given in his name to the 365 Project at Hospitality House of Northwest North Carolina, https://tinyurl.com/2srvtn28 .
