Helen Lenore Crowe Hawkins, age 81, of 506 North Church St. Mountain City, TN, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005 at the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, NC following a brief illness. She was a native of Johnson County and was born January 24, 1924 to the late Andrew Jackson and Myrtle Luttrell Crowe. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband William Washington Hawkins Jr., who passed away in l986; two sisters: Gladys Crowe Jenkins and Virginia Dare Crowe Slemp; three brothers: Lee Ray Crowe, Marcus Clay Crowe and Samuel Woodrow Crowe. Helen had attended the Elizabethton Business College. She was a retired secretary having worked with the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services for 37 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Wesleyan Guild. Survivors include one son: William Bliss and wife Carolyn Hawkins, of Mountain City, TN; two brothers: Jackson Howell Crowe of Crystal Springs, FL and Daniel Boone Crowe of Palatka, FL; one granddaughter, Laura Susan Hawkins of Johnson City, Tn; two grandsons: Matthew Bliss and wife Krystal Hawkins of Jonesborough, TN and Aaron Gibson and wife Jessica Hawkins of Raleigh, NC and one great grandson, Blaine Madison Bliss Boles of Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Helen will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, April 30, 2005 from the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Rye. Music will be under the direction of the First United Methodist Church. Graveside Services and Interment will follow in the Reece Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Dan Wilson, Matthew Bliss Hawkins, Aaron Gibson Hawkins, James Crowe, Carl C. Jenkins and Thomas E. Fortune. Honorary pallbearers are: Dr. John L. Whitlock and Dan Hammons. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 p. m. Saturday, prior to services, at the church. At other times, friends may call at the family residence of her son, William Bliss and Carolyn Hawkins, 320 William Hawkins Lane, Mountain City, TN 37683, at anytime. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Johnson County Courthouse Relay for Life, P. O. Box 73, Mountain City, TN 37683. Henson Funeral Home is serving the Hawkins family.
