Herbert Dean "HD" Arnold, age 72, of 190 Sawmill Lane, Butler, Tennessee, passed away Monday, March 24, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee after an extended illness. Mr. Arnold was a native of Doeville, and was born on June 7, 1930 to the late William Kenny and Elsie Adams Arnold. He was the owner and operator of HD Arnold Lumber Company. Mr. Arnold was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He loved to fish. He served on the Chamber of Commerce and was a board member of the Johnson County Rescue Squad. He was also a member of Giddeon International and Roan Creek Masonic Lodge No. 679. Mr. Arnold was a veteran of the Korean War. He received Honorary Sergeant At Arms of the Tennessee Senate for Outstanding Service to the state and community. Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Dean Arnold and William Howard Arnold; two sisters, Opal Campbell and Martha Johnson; and four brothers, Armer Arnold, Shelburn Arnold, Rossman Arnold, and JD Arnold. Survivors: Wife: Lillian Lunceford Arnold, of the home (2) Daughters: Donna Arnold-Shipley, Jonesborough, TN Norma Jean Hoover, Butler, TN Special Daughter: Jackie Rock Special Son: Dexter Shipley (3) Sisters: Edna Cress, Mountain City, TN Mary Nell Gwinn, Mountain City, TN Rachel South, Butler, TN (2) Brothers: James Arnold, Butler, TN Dexter Arnold, Hockessin, DE (5) Grandchildren: Becky Hoover, Butler, TN Bill Arnold, Mountain City, TN Josh Rock, Mountain City, TN Danielle Shipley, Jonesborough, TN Dillon Shipley, Jonesborough, TN Hux-Lipford Funeral Home is in charge of the Arrangements. Herbert Dean "HD" Arnold will be remembered at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Rev. Billy Harrell to officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Sunset Memorial Park accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Steve Arnold, Ted Hoover, David South, Roger Mays, Terry McEwen, David Lunceford, Ray Lunceford, and Daniel McEwen. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, former employees of HD Arnold Lumber Company, Carroll Bowman, Mark McEwen, Blaine Greer, and Dennis Patterson. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683; or to Giddeon International. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence, 190 Sawmill Lane, Butler, at any time.
