Herbert Pennington

Herbert Glen “Hub” Pennington, age 79, of 2284 Roundabout Road, Creston, North Carolina passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 at his residence. He was born November 13, 1936 to the late Ruda Pennington and Danford Graybeal Pennington. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: one daughter, Brenda Ann Pennington, three sisters; Joyce Ann Pennington, Pauline Mahaffa, and Iva Lee Smithey, and two brothers: Ralph Pennington, and Ernest Pennington. Herbert was enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and boxing. He was a boxer in the United States Army and served in Korea. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: his wife, Opal Sturgill Pennington, one daughter, Glenda Williams of Boca Rotan, FL, two step-daughters: Becky Mahaffa and Margaret Pennington, both of Creston, NC, three sons: Teddy Garfield Pennington and wife Angel of Valdese, NC, Herbert Harold Pennington and wife Amy of Morganton, NC, and Joseph Glen Pennington of Morganton, NC, four sisters: Barbara Roark, Ella Vanover, Margaret Lipford, all of Creston, NC, and Norma Wade of Mountain City, TN, and two brothers, Clyde Pennington and Thomas Pennington of Creston, NC. Five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Rock Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Roark officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m.- 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Graveside service will follow from the Price Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from friends and family. Honorary pallbearers are Marty and Mike Pennington.
