Howard Owens

Howard Owens, age 94, of 303 Dotson Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton, Tennessee. He was born on February 24, 1912 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Joe and Nancy Osborne Owens. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie J. Payne Owens, who passed away in 2004; one daughter, Betty Lou Owens and one brother, Clyde Owens. Howard was a retired employee of Tennessee Plastics. He enjoyed woodworking and crafting. He was a member of Roan Creek Baptist Church. Howard is survived by several nieces and nephews and many, many special friends and neighbors. Funeral Services for Howard D. Owens will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2007 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Wilson to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Roan Creek Baptist Church Choir. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the Service at the funeral home. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Sunset Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Shannon Payne, Bill Payne, Jerry Payne, Tom Payne, Ralph Vanover and Steve Roark. Honorary Pallbearers are: Larry Payne, Steve Arnold, Earl Payne and Bob Heck. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roan Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 639 Lumpkin Branch Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
