Hugo Van Roberts, age 82, of 919 Medical Park Drive, and formally of 321 Hancock Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Mountain City Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on September 19, 1924 in Johnson County to the late Arch U. and Sally (Float) Roberts. In addition to his parents, Hugo was preceded in death by three sisters: Charlotte H. Wallace, Violet M. Buchanan and Virginia R. Shoun. Hugo was a life-long resident of Johnson County and was raised in the Doe Valley Community. He had spent the last 40+ years living in the Rainbow Community. Hugo was an inactive member of the Doe Valley Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue E. (Lowe) Roberts, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law: Norma Jean (Roberts) and Ed Humphrey and Janice Ann (Roberts) and Franklin Howard; two sons and daughters-in-law: Jerry H. and Lou Ella (Tester) Roberts and James Gary and Alice (Horne) Roberts, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; three granddaughters: Elizabeth Fenner, Debra Bryant and Angie Howard; three grandsons: Brian Roberts, Wayne Roberts and Carl Howard; seven great grandchildren: Joshua Bryant, Trista Fenner Wilson and husband Jesse, Ericka Fenner, Chelsea Fenner, Tony Church, Logan Church and Krissy Howard; several nieces and nephews and many, many special friends. Funeral Services for Hugo Van Roberts will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Pastor Leon Bryant, Pastor Tim Bunton and Pastor Doug Stidham to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Vaughts Gap Baptist Church Choir. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2006 from the Sunset Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Burl McComas, Billy Davis, Vonnie Davis, Josh Bryant, Brian Roberts, Carl Howard, Wayne Roberts, Tony Church and Logan Church. Honorary Pallbearers are: Doug Hornsby and Staff of Mountain City Care Center, Dr. John Whitlock, Romeo Buchanan, Ted Trivette, Riley Combs, J.L. Roberts, Johnny Roberts, Earnest Tester, Joe Sherwood, Belle Eller, Earl Davis, Charlie Stout, John "Tip" Osborne, Dick Grayson, Clint Howard, Hobert Nichols, Howard Phillips and Sonny Porter. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the Services at the funeral home chapel. Those who wish may meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery or you may meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Cancer Support Group, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 N, Mountain City, TN 37683 or to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
