Obituary for Irene Cox
Edna Irene Cox, age 82, of 344 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. She was born March 30, 1933 to the late, Lettie Eldreth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Cox, two daughters, Sherry Cox and Diane Sheets and one son, Tim Cox; also two sisters, Bonnie Hutton and Nina Mae Farmer; two brothers, Elmer and Johnny Eldreth. She had worked as a factory worker for United Chemical. She enjoyed reading her Bible, shopping, collecting porcelain dolls, gardening and watching TV. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Greer and husband Gary of Mountain City, TN and a son, Jim Cox and wife Patsy of Creston, N.C.; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Two sisters Erlene Farmer, Jefferson, N.C. and Shirley Cornett, West Jefferson, N. C. and one brother Fred Eldreth of Mountain City, TN also survive. Several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Bibie Shupe, also survive. Special friends, Fern Roark, Betty Roop and Beulah Head.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from the Charles B. Hux Chapel with the Reverend Spencer Roark, Reverend Jim Francis and Reverend Danny Farmer officiating. Visitation will be from the Charles B. Hux Chapel 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Graveside and interment will follow the funeral service from the Cox-Davis Cemetery, Creston, N.C. Pallbearers will be Hunter McCoy, Richard McCoy, Jason Greer, Bryan Greer, John Cornett and Dwayne Farmer. Honorary pallbearers will be 100 Hall Staff of Mountain City Care Center.
