Mr. J.D. Blevins, age 85, formerly of 4340 Taylors Valley Road, Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tennessee. J.D. was born February 23, 1929 in Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee to the late Della Cole Blevins and Wesley James Blevins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Blevins, in 1987 and ten brothers and sisters. Mr. Blevins was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a lifelong member of State Line Baptist Church and a graduate of Damascus High School. He was an original member of Gee Haw portraying Junior Samples character. His hobbies included bluegrass music, singing and farming. Also, he was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Survivors include: daughter: Patricia "Sis" Carlton and husband Howard, Mountain City, TN; sons: Max Blevins, Sr. and wife Jeannie; Darrell Blevins of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren: Max Blevins, Jr. and wife Jill, Emily Blevins, Sara Grace Carlton and McLain Carlton and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for J.D. Blevins will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux- Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Icenhour officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Military graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. in State Line Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Howard Carlton, McLain Carlton, Max Blevins,Jr.,Clay Wilson, Harold Huggins, Van Neely, Clark Mixon, Paul Ward and Darrell Blevins. Honoaray Pallbearers will be Kerry Gentry,Stacy Greer and the Entire Case of Gee Haw.
