J. L. "Jake" Snyder, age 85, of 10440 Roan Creek Road, Butler, TN passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Doeville, Tennessee on April 15, 1929 to the late Floyd Snyder and Mary Williams Snyder. He was also preceded in death by one brother Floyd Snyder, Jr. and one sister Pauline Simcox. Mr. Snyder loved farming, he was a cattleman, enjoyed reading westerns and loved his Border collie especially Rex. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Snyder is survived by three sisters: Yvonne McEwen, Elizabethton, Tennessee, Juanita Lasater, Wichita Falls, Texas and Bernice Austin, Elizabethton, Tennessee and three nieces, Diane Montague, Mary Joe Lasater and Benita Sonsini and three nephews, Doug McEwen, Steve McEwen and Sam Austin. Survivors also include special friends: John Shull, Aaron Shull, Arthur Smith, Scott Hood, Randy McKinney, Connie Holloway, Cody Stout, Larry Shoun, also his special friend, Haley Pleasant who has brought him so many good cakes. Funeral services for Mr. J. L. "Jake" Snyder will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 from the Eastside Chapel, Hux-Lipford Funeral Home, Mountain City, Tennessee with the Rev. Roy Wilson to officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers will be John Shull, Aaron Shull, Arthur Smith, Scott Hood, Randy McKinney and Cody Stout. Honorary pallbearers are Sanford Courtner, Larry Shoun, Jay Matherly, Jimmy Griffey and Benny Stout. Graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 from the Snyder Family Cemetery. We will be assembling from Hux-Lipford Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Jimmy and Carolyn Griffey for their many kindnesses and visits. Many thanks to Connie Holloway for the good food she has brought to him. Special thanks to Hospice Care, especially his nurse Ivy Tester who he adored. Also a very special thanks to Dr. Raina Sluder.
