James A. Smiley, age 76, of 834 Circle Drive, Mountain City passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, In the Life Care Center, of Elizabethton, Tenn. He was a native of Kingston, Oklahoma and was born December 21, 1921 to the late Oscar and Mamie Blakely Smiley. He was preceded in death by (3) Sisters, Jo Ann Smiley, Joyce Byers and Eloise Brown. He was retired from the Post Office and was a U. S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II. He was a Member of the First Baptist Church, Deacon and Adult Sunday School Teacher and a member of the American Legion Post # 61. Survivors: Wife: Stella R. Smiley, of the home (5) Brothers: Blake Smiley, Madill, Oklahoma Bill Smiley, Gainesville, Texas Mervyn Smiley, Okla City, Oklahoma Mike Smiley, Ardmore, Oklahoma Pat Smiley, Frisco, Texas (5) Sisters: June Code, Corsicana, Texas Estelle Cummings, Burkburnett, Texas LaTrelle Bates, Dallas, Texas Mona Spears, Allen, Texas Ssuellen Marlott, Magnolia, Texas Step-Daughter: Dena Harper, Decatur, Texas 4 Grandchildren 6 Great Grandchildren Several Nieces and Nephews Hux-Lipford Funeral Home in charge of the Arrangements. Funeral services for James A. Smiley, age 76, of 834 Circle Drive, Mountain City will be held at 7:00 P. M. Wednesday from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Norm Reece and Mr. Buddy Zuercher to officiate. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery. Music will under the Direction of Mrs. Mary Hawkins , Mrs. Nancy Davis, Don Garrett, and Betty Cook. Mr. Smiley will be taken to the church at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, where he will be until visitation. Pallbearers will be the Johnson County Honor Guard Honorary Pallbearers will be: The brothers, Members of Gideons International, Adults Sunday School Class Of First Baptist, Jack Swift, Doran Swift and Dearl Swift. Military Honors will follow the Funeral Service accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Donations in Lieu of Flowers for those who wish may be made to the Gideons International Or the CBM Ministry. The family will receive Friends from 6 till 7:00 P. M. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Friends may call at the Residence, 834 Circle Drive, Mountain City at anytime. Hux-Lipford Funeral Home is in charge of the Arrangements.
